- A look at lesser-known railway careers
- Engaging content designed for children, families and enthusiasts alike
Whether you’re a lifelong railway fan or simply curious about how trains shaped modern Britain, this immersive experience promises something for everyone.
How to visit the Railway 200 Exhibition Train
The exhibition train will be free to visit with a valid Swanage Railway ticket. Visitors are strongly encouraged to travel by train, as there is no car parking at Corfe Castle station and parking in the village is limited.
To make visiting easy:
- A 1950s heritage diesel railbus will run a special feeder service between Norden station (next to Purbeck Park long-stay car park) and Corfe Castle
- Heritage steam trains will also operate between Swanage, Herston, Harman’s Cross, Corfe Castle and Norden throughout the three-day event
Tickets for the diesel railbus service can be booked now via the Swanage Railway website. Steam train bookings will open shortly.

Part of a national celebration
Railway 200 marks 200 years since the world’s first passenger railway journey, when George and Robert Stephenson’s Locomotion No. 1 ran on the Stockton and Darlington Railway in September 1825. That single journey transformed the world – standardising time, revolutionising travel, powering economies and opening the door to mass tourism.
Since launching its tour, the Railway 200 exhibition train has already welcomed around 50,000 visitors, with nine out of ten recommending it to friends and families.
A warm welcome from Swanage Railway
Swanage Railway Chief Executive Officer Abbie King said the team is “absolutely thrilled” to welcome the exhibition:
“Railways have played such an important role in shaping communities and connecting people, and this exhibition brings that story to life in a way that’s fun and accessible for all ages.
It’s a real privilege for the Swanage Railway to host something so special and historic, celebrating both our rich heritage and the exciting future of rail travel.”
Make a day of it
With steam trains, stunning countryside views, the iconic ruins of Corfe Castle and a world-class exhibition on your doorstep, this is a must-see event for February half term and beyond.
