The spirit of traditional May Day comes to Corfe Castle in a fun celebration

Step back in time this Early May Bank Holiday as National Trust brings the spirit of traditional May Day to life at Corfe Castle. From Saturday 2 to Monday 4 May 2026, the iconic ruins will host a vibrant weekend of medieval fun. There will be crafts, live music, and family-friendly activities—all set against one of Dorset’s most dramatic backdrops.

Live music & festive atmosphere

Across Saturday and Sunday, visitors can relax and enjoy live performances on the Centaur Stage. A pop-up music space curated by Dylan Rees-Coshan where you can discover some emerging talent. Expect laid-back sounds from Bournemouth indie-folk artist Alex Purrier alongside heartfelt acoustic sets from singer-songwriter Hunter Bradford—perfect for a springtime day out.

Adding a playful twist to tradition, Gobbleddegook Theatre will host a Disco Maypole. Visitors of all ages will be invited to take part in a joyful ribbon-weaving dance with a modern beat.

Try Medieval craftsmanship

On Monday 4 May, visitors have the chance to step even further into the past with a hands-on blacksmithing workshop. Led by local artisan Alistair Butcher of AB Forgeworks  this is a unique one-to-one experience. Participants will learn traditional forging techniques and create their own early-medieval key, inspired by designs dating from AD 800–1100.

Spaces are limited, so advance booking is essential.
