Wool Charter Fair Returns for a Day of Tradition, Crafts and Family Fun
Residents and visitors alike are invited to step back in time this spring as the historic Wool Charter Fair returns to Wool on Saturday 9 May, running from 12 noon to 5pm in Millennium Square.
The fair’s origins date back to 1280, when King Edward I granted a Royal Charter to the monks and Abbot of Bindon Abbey, giving them permission to hold an annual market near Wool Manor each May. More than seven centuries later, the tradition continues, offering a chance for the community to celebrate its heritage and enjoy a classic village fair atmosphere.
This year’s event will feature a variety of local groups showcasing traditional crafts and skills, alongside stalls from local traders and artisans. Visitors can expect demonstrations from period craftspeople, displays of heritage techniques, and plenty of handmade goods. There will also be home-baked treats, refreshments and ice cream available throughout the afternoon.
Held in the heart of the village near Wareham, Dorset, the fair promises a relaxed, family-friendly day out celebrating local history, creativity and community spirit.
Organisers warmly invite families and friends to come along, enjoy the festivities and help keep this centuries-old tradition alive.
