For King or Parliament? Poole and the English Civil War
A talk by Rev. Jeff Adams, Assistant Curate of St. James’ Church, Poole on Wednesday 21st October, 7.30 pm
Locals and visitors can readily see how the causes, events and outcomes of the 17th century Civil War were played out in Dorset, not least in how Corfe Castle was besieged and destroyed by the Parliamentarians. In his research Rev. Adams concluded that Poole’s experience of the issues which tore the country apart is arguably even more compelling, a microcosm of community and countrywide tensions. Why did Poole support the side it did? Which side might you have chosen?
