A Golden Anniversary for the Ploughing Match

Sunday 4th October, from 9am. Smedmore Estate, Kimmeridge, near Corfe Castle

A much-loved autumn tradition celebrates a major milestone this October, as the Wareham & Purbeck Vintage Ploughing Committee holds its 50th Annual Ploughing Match at Smedmore Estate, Kimmeridge, near Corfe Castle.

Taking place on Sunday 4th October from 9am, the event promises a fascinating day for enthusiasts, families and anyone who enjoys seeing traditional machinery and rural skills in action. Vintage and modern tractors will take centre stage, with plenty to see as competitors put their ploughing skills to the test.

Visitors can also enjoy tractor and trailer rides for a donation, while a catering van will be on hand to keep everyone refreshed. There will also be a charity raffle with some great prizes, making it an opportunity to enjoy a day out while supporting a worthwhile cause. See updates on the Facebook event page.

This year’s chosen charity is Julia’s House Children’s Hospice in Dorset, which provides vital care and support for seriously ill children and their families.

Held by kind permission of Mr J and Mr B Hole and Dr Philip Mansel, the 50th anniversary match is a chance to celebrate five decades of this much-loved local event and the farming heritage of the Purbeck area.

Entry is free, with no toll fee to pay if attending the ploughing match.
