This special event combines screenings of restored silent comedies with Neil Brand’s live piano accompaniment, bringing the laughter of Laurel and Hardy to life as audiences might have experienced nearly a century ago. Expect extended scenes from classics such as You’re Darn Tootin, The Finishing Touch, and The Second Hundred Years.

The Maestro of Silent Film
Over four decades, Neil Brand has established himself as a foremost authority on the birth of cinema. He has composed orchestral scores for silent films by Chaplin, Hitchcock, Fairbanks. Working with the BBC, Channel 4, radio, TV, films, musicals, concert dramas, his music has been heard extensively and his live performances have been featured in over 30 countries.
As a writer, presenter and pianist, he has created five major television series covering the history of the music of the cinema, musicals and tv. His storytelling, insights, and effortless piano skills have earned glowing praise from critics.

A Centenary Celebration
In 1926, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy signed separate contracts with Hollywood film mogul Hal Roach, and appeared for the first time in a film together, “45 Minutes from Hollywood”. The following year they would become an official comedy partnership that would set the whole world rocking with laughter. Nobody could have anticipated at the time how this unlikely Anglo/American comedy duo would become global icons in over 130 countries around the world.
Neil’s show celebrates their global legacy with rare clips, rediscovered gems, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes that bring the duo’s timeless humour into sharp, focus.
