Local Autumn events with the National Trust in Dorset
As the leaves begin to turn and the crowds of summer fade, autumn is a wonderful time to explore some of Purbeck’s most beautiful National Trust places. From fungi and wildlife walks to medieval history and free heritage events, there’s plenty to discover across Brownsea Island, Corfe Castle, Kingston Lacy and Studland.
Brownsea Island offers some particularly seasonal experiences. Join a Wild Wetland Bird Walk on 26 September or 24 October (10am–12.30pm) to explore the island’s lagoon with a Dorset Wildlife Trust ranger. Fungi enthusiasts can discover the island’s fascinating species on guided walks on 3, 7 and 10 October. In November, step back in time with a historical guided walk and cream tea in Brownsea Castle on 3 or 17 November, or join an Exclusive Red Squirrel Walk and cream tea every Thursday. Booking is required for all these events. Find out more details about events at Brownsea Island
At Corfe Castle, history takes centre stage. The Home and Hearth archaeological exhibition runs until 31 October, offering a fascinating glimpse into everyday life through historic finds. Heritage Open Days on 19–20 September offer free entry and the chance to explore 900 years of history.

At Studland, enjoy an Autumn Equinox Beach Walk and Breakfast on 23 September, or discover the hidden world of fungi on guided walks on 25 September, 9 and 29 October, and 6 and 15 November. Families can follow the Wicked Wildlife Trail from 24 October to 1 November, with activities, wand-making and a magical woodland adventure.
